There’s no question that a stack of fresh pancakes is awesome, but what about one giant fluffy pancake? Today we learned mixing a batch of pancake batter in the bowl of a rice cooker and then cooking it, just like you would when making a batch of rice, creates one great big floofy pancake that instantly reminds us of Totoro’s belly.
What’s more, just like regular pancakes, you can add all sorts of things to the batter, such as cocoa powder or pieces of fruit and chocolate, to further enhance your adorably plump tototorcake.

This is an amazing idea and I can’t believe I’ve never encountered it before.
This would be either awesome or a heartbreaking disappointment; I can’t see it being anywhere in between.
My brother did this a few weeks ago (plain pancake batter, no additions) and said it was awesome. The only caveat is if you have a fancy enough rice cooker for it to turn out properly, you definitely don’t want to mix it in the machine’s bowl like the instructions say, as good rice cookers usually have an excellent non-stick coating you don’t want to risk damaging.
Aha, but what if you stirred it with… the rice scoop!?
